In April 2013, we present the final production in our 2012-2013 Erie Reader Staged Reading Series. Dustin Lance Black’s “8” portrays the legal argument and witness testimony of the Perry v. Schwarzenegger trial, which led to the overturning of California’s Proposition 8. Using actual transcripts from the court case, Black has crafted a heartbreaking and compelling look at this monumental legal case.
This December, Dramashop presents the second offering in our Erie Reader Staged Reading Series, the critically acclaimed and fan adored “Santaland Diaries” by David Sedaris. Perfectly suited for the holidays, Sedaris’ sardonic wit fits terribly with his chosen profession as a Macy’s elf during the Christmas season. The resulting friction gave rise to this autobiographical piece that offers a very different perspective on the holiday season.
Donald Margulies’s Tony nominated play, ” “Time Stands Still” takes a hard look at the social and emotional realities of those returning from war. This exploration is done through the lens of Sarah, a photo journalist who is returning to Brooklyn after being injured in the war in Iraq. Immensely relevant and thought-provoking, “Time Stands Still” will be offered as part of the Erie Reader Staged Reading Series, all performances of which are free to the public.
